It was our first visit of the season to Hungary and it was initially dedicated to the Staff Exchange ‘Scoring for Education’ held in Budapest and organised by the European Football for Development Network (EFDN), the network of football clubs focusing on development and sustainability. This gave us the opportunity to show CSR programme representatives from Bayern 04 Leverkusen, Montrose FC, Feyenoord Rotterdam and Ferencvárosi TC what a day of integration, training and playing looks like with Inter Campus.

On this occasion, thanks to the perfect organisation of our local Hungarian partner ‘Love is the answer’, about 20 children from the Roma ethnic group came to Budapest from the Szendrolád training centre to join the children from the Cseppko orphanage in an afternoon of training and playing. It was a certainly a special day, not only for the children from the village near the Slovakian border, who got to see those from the orphanage again, but also for the local instructors of the two training centres, who made the most of the situation by exchanging ideas and sharing their experiences. As usual, shirts from the new season were given out and the instructors received training to complete our Hungarian mission.

On the plane back to Milan, we, the Inter Campus delegation, realised that we were thinking the same thing during the visit: the happiness of the children from Szendrolad when seeing their small friends from Budapest again made us realise what such a day means and how important the integration work that we’ve been carrying out for many years really is.
