RAVENNA - The Stadio Benelli in Ravenna hosted yet another Inter win with Gabriele Bonacina’s Under-16s playing a fantastic match to beat Juventus 3-0 with goals from Esposito, Sakho and Oristanio. It was the 51st trophy in the history of the Nerazzurri’s Elite Academy in male football. It was the 31st trophy since 2000 and the 17th piece of silverware in the past five years. The fantastic result completed the treble of Scudetti won this season by the Primavera, Under-15 (plus Supercoppa) and Under-17 teams. The same also happened last season when the Under-17s, Under-18s and Primavera all won.
Right from the start, both sides played attacking football with a lot of play coming down the flanks. As time went on, Inter took control and were able to stay camped in the final third. It took ten minutes for the deadlock to be broken. Esposito made his way into the box, cut back onto his left with a brilliant feint before beating Garofani to make it 1-0.
Bonacina’s side continued to push after going ahead. From a corner, Pirola connected well with his left foot but his effort hit the side-netting. In the 20th minute, Juventus’ main threat Abou got away on the right but Di Marco came to the rescue to clear at the expense of a corner. Halfway through the half, Barone’s side came into it more and a Poppa goal was disallowed for offisde after some good work by Abou to set him up. Inter had a chance in the 30th minute but Garofani saved from Esposito.
The Nerazzurri started on the right foot again after the break. Oristanio and Esposito were always positive in looking to pose a threat in attack. At the same time, Bonacina’s defenders were always positioned well as Juventus struggled to find space. Inter continued to improve and deservedly made it 2-0 on 63 minutes. The substitute Sakho was determined in the box and beat the goalkeeper with his right foot. The cherry on the cake came four minutes later when Oristanio’s perfect left-foot shot on the turn made it 3-0.
In the final minutes, Bonacina’s side controlled the match to see it out. Following on from the Primavera and Under-15s, the Under-16s are now also CHAMPIONS OF ITALY. It’s a superb hat-trick of titles for the Nerazzurri’s Elite Academy.
