JUNE 20TH: A SPECIAL DAY FOR TWO GRANDE INTER LEGENDS

The Nerazzurri remember Armando Picchi, a legend from the Grande Inter side, who was born 83 years ago today

MILAN - 20th June 1958. June 20th, keep this date in mind. It is 60 years to the day that Mario Corso signed his first contract with Inter: his home, his family, his destiny.

He made 502 appearances for the Nerazzurri and scored 95 goals. He also coached the Primavera and the first team before then enjoying a long spell as a director and scout.

Massimo Moratti repeatedly referred to him as his favourite player from the club’s 110 years, something that certainly counts for a degree at the University of Football. Corso had talent, intelligence and class, however, these things never hindered his ability to help the team.

It was this that made him such a hugely popular figure among the Nerazzurri support and also respected by opposition fans. He scored almost 100 goals for Inter, although you cannot even count those that he set up for his teammates during his 15-year career with the club.

During his time with the Nerazzurri, he secured four Scudetti, two European Cups (losing just as many) and two Intercontinental Cups. He also made many friendships in football, including one that was truly unbreakable – with Armando Picchi, his captain, who died in 1971. He fought plenty of battles with him, both winning and losing; coincidentally, June 20th was the day Picchi that was born. One could say that their friendship was written in the stars.
