MILAN - Ahead of the match where the Scudetto will be on the line, Under-19 Coach Stefano Vecchi spoke to Inter TV. Tomorrow’s match at the Mapei Stadium will be the seventh final of his Inter career, and he’s already won the league championship (2016-2017), Viareggio Cup (2014-15 and 2017-18), the Coppa Italia (2015-16) and Supercoppa Italiana (2017-18).
"The emotion and tension that you feel before a final is there because we know that we’re close to what is an important objective for us, the club and the lads. Every final is of the same importance, even if we’ve played in a lot. We’re happy with what we’ve done and the fact that we’ve hit important targets again this year."
Tomorrow’s will be the third straight final against Fiorentina: "It will certainly be different compared to the past matches [Scudetto and Viareggio]. Every football match is unpredictable and poses various difficulties. All the same, we hope that it will be the same result in a final. We’re used to playing for big honours but they’re not far behind. They had an extra day of rest but both sides know how to prepare for these matches and we’ll be ready at kick-off."
He then looked back on what the team did against Juventus. "The main uncertainty was whether we’d be ready mentally and physically from the off because they played more games in this period. We were then positively surprised with the response from the team. Against Fiorentina, it will take a great effort. We’ve spent some energy but our boys can recover quickly."
Vecchi also discussed the difference between tomorrow’s final compared to those in the previous year. "We always try to transmit the same values to our players year on year, Fiorentina have a new coach so something has obviously changed there. However, in terms of the players, they’ve made fewer changes than we have. There are different factors at play in a final. You certainly need to limit mistakes because these are balanced matches where the team that makes fewer errors often wins."
