LONDON - It was a great celebration with all the money raised going to charity. Over 30,000 fans were in attendance at Stamford Bridge for the fixture ‘In Memory of Ray Wilkins’ which was the first match ever for Chelsea Legends as they hosted Inter Forever.
The Nerazzurri’s English tour started on a very positive note with a 4-1 comeback win after Di Matteo opened the scoring. Materazzi scored with a good header before Suazo found the net from close range in the first half. In the second half, Karagounis scored twice.
Coach Riccardo Ferri was satisfied after the game. "It was a great and moving backdrop with it being in memory of Ray Wilkins. The match was against some great opponents we have a lot of friends at Chelsea. This is what Inter Forever is all about. Last night, we all ate together and it was wonderful to be all together again after a lot of time. What did I have to do with the win? I was just there. But, the extraordinary thing is that we became a real team in just a few hours because we all share the respect and love for these colours. Everyone gave their best and this was important."
It was another trophy with Inter Forever for Javier Zanetti: "Four years to the day when I retired from my playing career, we’ve come back to this stadium where did something special eight years ago."
Zanetti then spoke about the first team at the current moment: "I now think as a director but every time that I find myself with the guys it’s a great feeling. The Coach and the players deserve to make the Champions League and I hope that they can play a great game. The Coach is very intelligent and he understood from the start what the environment and spirit are at Inter."
