VIAREGGIO - At the Stadio Torquato Bresciani Valietti found the winner in Inter vs. Genoa with a late goal to send the Nerazzurri to the semi-final of the 70th edition of the Viareggio Cup. The win came at the death from a D’Amico free kick that fell to the number two who got away a good right-foot shot to send Vecchi’s side through. They will now play Parma on Monday 26th March.
After the opening exchanges where the teams tried to figure one another out, Genoa had the first real shot through Tazzer who missed the target. In the 17th minute Salcedo went through for a one-on-one against Pissardo but he took too long to get the shot away and Nolan did well to recover and put it out for a corner.
There was a big chance for the Nerazzurri in the 31st minute who went extremely close through Belkheir. The number 11 was set up by Brignoli but Altare was able to deny him at the last moment. A few minutes later, Brignoli got free on the right and crossed for Adorante but he wasn’t able to turn it on goal.
The first half closed with Inter constantly on the attack but unable to make it 1-0.
At the start of the second half, Vecchi took Belkheir and Visconti off for Rover and Roric. Inter controlled possession and launched some attacks but without creating real danger. Genoa looked to play on the break and Sala was dangerous in the 75th and 80th minutes thanks to some good individual play on the left. Just when it seemed set to go to penalties, D’Amico took a free kick in the 93rd minute that fell to the feet of Valietti who didn’t wait to beat Rollandi and score the winner. Inter beat Genoa 1-0 and will face Parma in the semi-final.
