MILAN - The early matchday 12 kick-off between Inter and Torino in Serie A TIM ended as a hard-fought 1-1 draw on Sunday, with the fixture being played out in front of 71,000 fans at the San Siro. The Nerazzurri had numerous chances to score throughout the match, although Iago Falque broke the deadlock against the odds after the interval, with an equaliser from Eder eventually snatching a draw for Inter. The result now leaves Spalletti’s side on 30 points in the league standings.
Following a strong start to the match, the first chance fell to the Nerazzurri, with Candreva’s fourth minute cross just sneaking past Icardi in the opposition penalty area. Torino soon responded with two good chances for Baselli; his first sailing high over the crossbar, while his second effort was well saved by Handanovic. Just four minutes later, Vecino sought to surprise Sirigu at the near post, although the Granata shot-stopper did well to get across. With Candreva proving to be a real handful down the right, he teed up Icardi once again in the 23rd minute, who failed to make full contact with his following shot. Gagliardini then tried his luck just moments later, although his powerful strike went over. Sirigu was called into action once again in the 38th minute, as he produced a fantastically athletic save to keep out a header from Skriniar. Despite a late headed chance from Baselli, the first half eventually finished goalless.
Coming out for the second 45, Inter immediately looked for the opener. The 49th minute saw Nagatomo swing in a perfect cross for Vecino, whose header was turned out for a corner by Sirigu. Just less than 10 minutes later Borja Valero slid in Icardi, whose right-footed shot was deflected out for a corner from Obi. Despite significant Nerazzurri pressure, Torino managed to take the lead in the 60th minute, with Iago Falque breaking forward into the home side’s final third and unleashing a fierce left-footed shot into the bottom corner. Further missed chances soon arrived for Inter, with Icardi failing to find the target with a wayward effort in the 62nd minute. Five minutes later, Obi tried his luck in the air but was unable to extend his side’s narrow lead. Following a tentative effort from Belotti, the Nerazzurri’s long-winded efforts were soon rewarded. Come the 79th minute, Perisic swung in a cross for Icardi at the back post, who unselfishly cut it back for Eder who made no mistake with the finish. With the game entering its final stages, Inter pushed hard for a winner, with Vecino going close as he crashed a wicked long-range effort off the crossbar late on. Four minutes of time were added on at the end, although Inter and Torino were ultimately forced to share the spoils.
Due to the imminent international break, Inter’s next match will now be against Atalanta on Sunday 19th November at the San Siro (20:45 CET).
