SPALLETTI: "WE'RE ON THE RIGHT ROAD BUT WE WANT TO GO FURTHER"

The Nerazzurri Coach ahead of Benevento vs. Inter: "We have to be demanding of ourselves and not lower our guard. We always want to do more"

APPIANO GENTILELuciano Spalletti’s Inter are set for the fourth away match of the season as they face Benevento tomorrow at 15:00 CEST on matchday seven of the 2017-18 Serie A TIM season. “We must be demanding of ourselves, we have to know that we’re still not who we want to be,” said the Coach ahead of the match at the Stadio Ciro Vigorito. “This obliges us to not lower our guard and to have better speed of thought so that we’re less predictable. We’ve done a lot of positive things, but it will help if we’re picky and use those decisive tenths of seconds and centimeters.”

“I’m looking for different speed of thought and execution. We take too many touches and we’re still a bit lazy in our thinking. At a distance, we’ve done quite well but we need to show something more in our speed of execution. The luck on our side? Up to now we’ve had a good attitude if you consider where we want to get to. We’re doing the right things and fortune goes to those who look for it. Football needs crazy pieces of play and instincts and we need to do more in this regard. Because we are Inter, we’ve also had a sample of the passion from our fans.”
“We have a group of good players and we want to share our idea of football with them. The boys are on our side and convinced that this is the right road. A mark for the start of the season? In terms of effort, top marks but that’s not everything. We want to go further and progress, use the time we have well and work in a professional way to improve day after day.”
“Icardi? I don’t see a player who has done badly or who is having a tough time. As we look for consistency, we’ve had dips in form and this is part of the growth process. I’ve asked Mauro to drop further back more, he’s focused on this and I know he’ll take advantage of it. We have to be better at getting the ball forward, even if they’re not the cleanest passes because he knows how to ‘clean’ them up. He’s one of the strongest players I’ve ever coached. Vanheusden’s injury? He has all of our love because he’s a future great player for Inter and he’s a good guy. He has great maturity for his age. These things shouldn’t happen, we’re all close to him and waiting for him because Inter needs these kinds of talents.”
