MILAN - There have previously been a total of 100 Serie A encounters between Inter and Genoa, with the Nerazzurri winning 50 per cent of these matches (50). The Grifone have came out victorious on just 21 occasions. From a total of 50 Serie A fixtures played in Milan, Genoa have triumphed only four times, with Inter obtaining 36 wins. Furthermore, Inter have not been beaten at home by Genoa since March 1994, with that game ending 3-1 to the Ligurian outfit. Following that defeat, the Nerazzurri have gone onto record eight wins and three draws.
So far this season Inter have won both of their opening league matches at home. The 2015/16 campaign saw the Nerazzurri pick up three consecutive opening wins at the San Siro, all by the same 1-0 scoreline.
Dries Mertens and Ivan Perisic are the only two players across the top five European leagues with at least ten goals and ten assists in 2017. Meanwhile, Milan Škriniar’s goal against Crotone has been the only one of the Nerazzurri’s 11 strikes this season that has not been directly influenced (goals and assists) by Perisic or Icardi.
Among the players with at least four goals this season, Mauro Icardi is the one who has reached that tally with the least shots taken. The Nerazzurri captain has fired just 14 shots so far this campaign. Interestingly, Icardi scored his first ever Serie A goal against Genoa, coming back in November 2012 when he was a Sampdoria player.
Marcelo Brozovic’s only ever brace in Serie A came against Genoa at the Meazza in December 2016, while Éder has scored three goals against Genoa in Serie A, all coming back when he was also a Sampdoria player (the most recent was in January 2016). Genoa are notably Yuto Nagatomo’s preferred opposition in Serie A, having scored three goals against the Ligurian opposition, one of which was also his first in the top Italian tier during a 5-2 win for Inter back in March 2011.
Familiar faces: Goran Pandev made a total of 46 Serie A appearances for Inter from January 2010 to the end of the following championship, scoring a total of five goals in the process. Andrea Ranocchia could also feature on Sunday, who previously played for Genoa during the 2010/11 campaign, making a total of 16 appearances and scoring twice.
