DISAPPOINTED PIOLI WANTS MORE

Read the coach's take on Genoa v Inter: "It's a delicate moment but we must put things right. We were a team when things were good; let's be one now"

GENOAStefano Pioli has been analysing Inter's performance and recent form after today's loss away to Genoa.

"It's inevitable that there's disappointment," the Nerazzurri coach began. "Results recently have been poor looking at the quality we have, so it's normal that you have to do more.

"We set up today to control the game, but if you don't take your chances everything becomes more difficult. Various incidents hurt us and we could have drawn level, but we should have scored before they took the lead. We're all convinced we can do more. We've lost the game because we didn't pay enough attention in the key moments.

"There are three matches still to play and we haven't won for a while. We would have liked to return to Milan with three points. It's a delicate moment but we need to find a way to put things right. We're disappointed and we have to do more because there is quality in this squad."

Pioli also addressed some of his tactical decisions before and during the contest.

"As for Mauro Icardi's substitution, I wanted to change something and introduce fresher players in attack. It wasn't Mauro's best day and I wasn't happy with our offensive play. I tried to throw on two fresh players to create problems for the opponents.

"We tried to play with two strikers closer together, so we'd have more depth and more of a presence in the box. Nevertheless, we should have played quicker and, in any case, we couldn't finish off the chances we had."

Finally, the Inter coach looked ahead to the rest of the season.

"Is Europe one bridge too far? Right now the important thing is to end the season showing desire and pride. We must prove we have ability. We've done so in the past and we have to do it again.

"Will I resign? I've begun a job here and at the start it was going well, but currently it's not producing results. I want to finish the job and support the team in any way I can to help them get out of this situation. We were a team when results were going well; we also need to be one during the bad times. I'm confident that this season, even if it's been poor, will help Inter understand how to build for the future."
