APPIANO GENTILE – The first Australian defender in Nerazzurri history fielded numerous questions from all over the world in #askSainsbury this morning.
Trent Sainsbury took control of the club's Twitter account at the Suning Training Centre and revealed some interesting facts about him, his memories and his expectations ahead of this new adventure at Inter.
"People here are helping me a lot to adjust," Sainsbury began, "which makes it easier coming from such a long way away. Initially I've been sticking with the players who speak my language like Perisic, Kondogbia, Joao Mario and Nagatomo."
Inter have always been on Sainsbury's radar, even as a child. "When I first started watching highlights of Italian football, Recoba was the player to watch, then I'd watch him against the Socceroos for his national team – he also wore the No.20 shirt! The best defender at Inter was Zanetti, the Captain, while Icardi has made the biggest impression on me out of the current players. Perisic is the toughest I've faced here.
"The squad is very united," he continued, "it's exciting to be involved in Pioli's training sessions. I've already seen that the fans are very passionate and view Inter as a big family."
Trent is hoping his move to the Nerazzurri will also help him on the international front. "Being at Inter will take my training to another level and keep me sharp and ready for the Socceroos. It's a lot more tactical and technical [here], plus the quality of the players is a lot higher."
Finally, the latest Nerazzurri signing spoke a bit about himself and the reason behind his nickname
"My nickname is Skippy, like the kangaroo from the television series, of which my old coach in Holland was a fan! Aside from football, I like golf, discovering new places and trying new food. Ronaldo or Messi? They're both superstars, but my favourite is Eden Hazard."
