AREZZO – The Inter Club Coordination Centre in Tuscany teamed up with the local branch in Arezzo to put on an evening dedicated to the legendary former Nerazzurri coach Gigi Simoni.
Over two hundred Inter Club members came to the event and there were lots of children present too, who received gifts from a Nerazzurri-dressed Befana before proceedings got under way. The evening featured different video clips marking Simoni's career as a footballer, coach and finally sporting director.
"We're very proud to have had Mr Simoni here as our guest," explained regional coordinator Fernando Panci. "For us Inter fans, he evokes unforgettable matches and players."
Simoni then presented his book Simoni si nasce, tre vite per il calcio ("Born Simoni: three lives in football"), an autobiography intended as a guide for future generations in order to preserve the true values of all sport and football in particular.
Former Inter president Massimo Moratti summed up Simoni's legacy at the club aptly: "His down-to-earth way of building relationships, the fact he never put himself on a pedestal, his surprising humility […] made Simoni an icon among Nerazzurri fans and respected and admired everywhere. This biography is fully warranted and sums up an incredibly long career, which has certainly put him up there with the best Italian coaches of all time."
