MILAN - Stefano Pioli declared himself satisifed with Inter's performance after a dominant display against Bologna was rewarded with victory in extra time.
Antonio Candreva scored a 109th-minute winner after Jeison Murillo's and Rodrigo Palacio's first-half strikes were cancelled out.
“We deserved to win tonight because we fashioned a hatful of chances," the Nerazzurri boss said after the match.
“It was a really good game to watch with lots of chances but we allowed ourselves to be pegged back and we must never ease up. We always need that extra goal because it often happens that our opponents score with their first effort on target.”
The coach also commented on another impressive display by Roberto Gagliardini, his second in less than a week since the midfielder joined the club.
“He's a well-rounded player. He's got great positional sense, his movement is excellent and he helps out both in defence and in attack. He and Kondogbia played really well but I have other midfielders who are very good too."
Inter will now wait to find out their quarter-final opponents will be on 31 January but before then Palermo await at the weekend.
“We have to focus on the league now," Pioli concluded. "Palermo will be pulling out all the stops but we want to keep on winning."
