MILAN – With a goal and an assist, Ever Banega played a starring role in Inter's win against Lazio at San Siro this evening.
"It was important to win against such a good opponent," the Argentine said to Inter Channel after the game, "especially to sign off the year with a victory at our stadium. It was nice to score the first goal.
"We were finding it tough to control midfield in the first half, but we unlocked the game in the second and then Mauro [Icardi] scored which essentially killed off the contest.
"It's normal that there's a lot of competition at Inter. I played today because a team-mate was missing, but I always have to give it my all when I get the chance. Let's continue to work hard to find consistency and start back up with a win after the break.
"Mauro wants to play in the national team," Banega concluded, "but I'm not the coach. We're pleased he's playing well here. The Champions League is our aim and we're working hard to reach the positions we deserve."
