MILAN – Victory over Fiorentina is just the fillip Inter needed going into a big match against Napoli, says Mauro Icardi.
The Nerazzurri skipper, who netted twice in the 4-2 defeat over Paulo Sousa's side, believes the result sets Inter up nicely for Friday's crunch encounter at the Stadio San Paolo.
“Perhaps we should have killed the game off earlier. It didn't go well for us in Israel, whereas tonight we managed to get the points.
“Inter should be able to mix it with anyone because we've got a great squad. We need to keep working and keep things a bit tighter as a unit but we can go a long way.
“We'll head down to Napoli with a bit less pressure on us thanks to this win tonight.”
Monday's brace at the Meazza takes Icardi's tally for the season to 12, putting him neck and neck alongside Edin Dzeko in the Serie A scoring charts.
“There are no calculations involved: when I get the chance to score I just try to take it," the Argentine explained.
"My first goal came after a good bit of play. It reminds me a bit of the one I scored against Cagiari
“I'm working hard for the team, harrying the opposition keeper and things like that. I try to lead by example.”
