MILAN - Roberto Boninsegna was a proper forward, with an eye for goal that was more unique than it was rare.
Born in Mantua, in 1943, the centre forward spent seven seasons at Inter. He was part of the Scudetto-winning side of 1970/71 and was the top scorer in that season with 24 goals.
Boninsegna, who was given the nickname Bonimba by the Nerazzurri faithful, came through the ranks at the club. He will always be remembered for his spectacular volley against Foggia, on 2 May 1971. It was the goal which paved the way for Inter to win their eleventh Scudetto.
In 281 appearances for the club, he scored 171 goals.
Happy Birthday and warm wishes from everyone at Inter!
