MILAN - Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has described Javier Zanetti as the "toughest defender" he ever played against in an interview with UEFA.com.
Looking back on his greatest achievements, goals, team-mates and opponents during a trophy-laden club career lasting two decades with the Red Devils, the Welsh wing wizard identified our vice president when asked to name his toughest opposing defender.
"Without a doubt the toughest defender I ever faced in the Champions League was Javier Zanetti. He had everything! He was fast, strong, intelligent, liked to get forward and was comfortable on the ball. I always used to feel like I could make things happen against any defender, but he always made it very difficult."
