ROME – Stefano Vecchi believes his Primavera side must take their chances if they are to have a successful season after they were beaten 2-0 by Roma on Sunday afternoon.
"We should have equalised – we had a man extra for most of the game but sadly we weren’t able to take advantage," Vecchi told Sportitalia after the game.
"We had lots of chances to make it 1-1 but that was mainly down to individual moves. There wasn’t enough quality to our game – we need to be more compact as a team. That’s the goal with a new group. We knew it was going to be tough today, but given the way the game went I would have liked a draw at the least."
The match saw a number of injuries and three red cards – two of which were for Inter players.
"The injuries were accidental, though I’d like to see the Vanheusden one again," explained Vecchi. "What I don’t accept is the red cards. You can swallow a defeat to Roma because they’re a great side, but we need to keep our heads, especially when the going gets tough.
"If we’d maintained our man advantage into the final throes then we would have been able to keep Roma boxed into their penalty area and we might have created more chances. As it happened, we ended up with nine men and conceded the second goal."
