EMPOLI – Frank de Boer believes there are better performances to come after this evening's victory, as his players become even more comfortable with his playing style.
Before analysing the match in detail, Inter's manager responded to Massimiliano Allegri's assertion that last Sunday's Derby d'Italia was a poor match: "I respect the opinion of the Bianconeri coach but I don't agree with him."
Then De Boer addressed the confident display from his side: "After we went into a 2-0 lead, we lost concentration and I thought the team might have been a bit tired because we had put a lot of energy into the Juventus game. Nevertheless, in the second half we controlled the game well and I'm pleased with how we played."
The greater resilience in the Nerazzurri defence hasn't gone unnoticed either: "Have we improved in defence? Yes, we want to narrow the space in between the lines and when we have to press, we do it well. I believe our playing philosophy is getting better and better every day."
"As for what has changed between the Hapoel game and today, the players have to start with. I've only been coach for a month and we understand each other better today than we did yesterday. However, this is not a project that we can complete in the short term. We put a lot of energy into tonight as well, but we know that things will get better only through playing more matches."
The head coach wrapped up with a comment on Marcelo Brozovic, who was seen in the stands supporting his team-mates tonight: "Brozovic needs to work hard and if he does that, he'll come back into the fold. First of all he must show that he is a professional. I'm very happy he came here to watch the game because that helps the team. It's the first step."
