VECCHI HOPES PALERMO WIN IS JUST THE BEGINNING

Primavera boss pleased with his boys' performance in opening-day victory: "We played well against a tricky side. Hopefully it's the start of something great"

SESTO SAN GIOVANNI - Stefano Vecchi says he holds high hopes for the new campaign after watching his U19 lads defeat Palermo 2-0 in their first league match on Saturday.

"It wasn't an easy game but we knew we'd be up against a tough, well-drilled outfit," the coach said in a post-match interview with Sportitalia.

"We kept the ball well in the first half but weren't clinical enough in our finishing. But we did a good job of keeping the shackles on two tricky strikers in Lo Faso and Bonfiglio and we were rarely troubled at the back.

“After the restart we pushed on and managed to come away with the three points in the end.

“Pinamonti is an excellent striker who's spent time training with the first team. He's an important player for us."

Vecchi then told Inter Channel: "There were lots of unknown factors going into the game but we came up with a top performance against a very good side.

“We found it hard to open up the space in the first half, while in the second half we were clearly in the ascendancy.

"We're building a new team and I hope this first win is the start of something great."
