AUSILIO HAILS INTER SQUAD

Nerazzurri sporting director Piero Ausilio spoke to Mediaset Premium in the build-up to Inter v Palermo on Sunday evening

MILAN – Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio believes the club have built a fantastic squad for the 2016/17 Serie A campaign.

"The owners are very generous and they’ve shown they’re ready to make significant investments," began Ausilio. "I think we’ve built a good, competitive squad. Now we need to develop a playing style and deliver results."

Ausilio also spoke about some of the deals in particular: "Joao Mario and Gabigol are both well-established players who join from big leagues. I gave my technical opinion during the identification process for certain players."

The sporting director played down claims that Inter could be about to strengthen at the back.

"I don’t think we’ll be signing a defender," revealed Ausilio. "Andreolli is coming back and he’s one that came up through our youth academy. Medel can play in several positions, so I think we’ll stick as we are."

Ausilio also addressed the rumours that have linked Mauro Icardi with a move away from San Siro.

"When I said Icardi was unsellable, nobody believed it. He was always very calm. He carried himself like the captain of Inter should – he was extremely professional," explained Ausilio.

Finally, Ausilio touched on two players still linked with a move away: Marcelo Brozovic and Stevan Jovetic.

"Brozovic is a very useful player for Inter. In few days it’ll be a lot easier for him to work as part of our project here. Jovetic? There’s nothing done, but we’re talking."
