DE BOER PLEASED WITH PERFORMANCE AFTER DEBUT VICTORY

The new Nerazzurri boss speaks after friendly at Thomond Park: "The lads have caught on to what I want from them very quickly"

LIMERICK - Frank de Boer declared himself satisfied with Inter's victory over Celtic on Saturday but was keen to stress that next week's visit to Chievo is all that matters now.

"I'm pleased and not so much with the result but for the way we played. All the lads gave the best of themselves, played with intensity and tried to put into practice what I asked of them," the coach told Sky UK following Saturday's International Champions Cup contest in Limerick.

“We scored two great goals and managed to reproduce a number of things we'd practised on the training ground but best of all we looked compact. They've caught on to what I want from them very quickly.

“I'm happy we got a good result too but the most important game is next weekend. Now we have a week to prepare for our trip to Chievo.

“We'll get better from week to week but the next game is the most important one and the first league fixture is always one of the trickiest.”

Finally, the boss brushed off talk of Mauro Icardi possibly leaving: “Mauro is staying with us because he's a hugely important player.”
