NEW YORK – The past week will live long in the memory for the children of Inter Campus USA.
It began with a visit from the Italian coaching staff to Inwood, the park that has been home to Inter Campus sessions for years. There was a workout on the first morning that revolved around the Inter Campus methodology based on hard work and enjoyment.
The surprise was even greater the following day when Andrea Ranocchia, Cristian Ansaldi, Andrea Pinamonti and Fabio Della Giovanna visited training to deliver the new Nerazzurri shirts. It was an exciting moment for everybody involved: children, families and players.
Pirelli North America then hosted all the children, local coaches and parents at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey for Inter v Estudiantes. The youngest were able to walk out hand-in-hand with the players onto the pitch, while the entire delegation went for a lap of honour around the stadium at the end of the first half. There was one special guest in particular watching on from the stadium: United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was invited to the match and greeted both teams before kick-off.
Thursday was the most memorable day as the kids visited the UN headquarters alongside president Erick Thohir, vice president Javier Zanetti and the whole Inter squad. It was yet another opportunity to stress how sport can genuinely be a key tool in achieving the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
