ICC: INTER 1-4 BAYERN MUNICH

The Inter Summer Tour in America ends with defeat: Green bags a hat-trick and Ribery scores for the Germans, Icardi with a consolation goal

CHARLOTTE – Roberto Mancini's Nerazzurri ended their experience in the USA with defeat to Bayern Munich at Bank of America Stadium in the second game of the International Champions Cup.

Although Inter improved markedly after half-time, the damage was already done and Bayern never looked like losing in a 4-1 victory.

Stevan Jovetic threatened almost immediately after kick-off, but it was Bayern who took the lead in the seventh minute. Franck Ribery fed an onrushing David Alaba, who put in a first-time cross that Julian Green managed to turn into the net from close range.

The German side doubled their lead a few minutes later, when Fabian Benko burst into the area and cut it back for Ribery to clip home into an empty net.

Carlo Ancelotti's men didn't take their foot off the gas and made it 3-0 on the half-hour mark: Tom Starke played out from goal, Ribery took the ball down and played it into the path of Green, who took one touch before slotting past Samir Handanovic. The American got his hat-trick just moments later, turning in Rafinha's drilled first-time cross.

After the half-time break, Bayern Munich settled into a rhythm of keeping possession, while the Nerazzurri looked brighter and came close on a number of occasions: first from a Felipe Melo header, then a left-footed strike from Cristian Ansaldi and finally a long-range effort from Geoffrey Kondogbia. Unfortunately, all failed to hit the target.

Mauro Icardi and Senna Miangue came on in the 71st minute, with Inter's skipper making an immediate impression. The Argentine forward got himself on the scoresheet a few minutes before full-time when he intercepted a horizontal pass across the Bavarian defence and steered a diagonal shot past an advancing Starke.

After two minutes of stoppage time, the referee blew his final whistle and called time on the Nerazzurri's adventures in the United States.
