PORTLAND – Stevan Jovetic is determined to hit the ground running when the new season kicks off and is making the most of pre-season to ensure he's in top form by 20 August.
The Montenegrin striker shared his hopes and aspirations for the coming campaign in an exclusive interview with Sport Mediaset.
"I'm trying to put in a good pre-season so that I reach my best by the time Serie A gets under way. We want to be up there challenging at the top – like last season and even better. I'm working hard so that I can be a success.”
After making a perfect start to his Nerazzurri career, the 26-year-old had a low-key second half of the campaign last term but insists that's all behind him now.
“What's past is past; I always look forward. I know what I can do and I am a bit disappointed but I want to focus on next season. There's never been any doubt in my mind about staying at Inter.”
One player who is no longer at the club is Adem Ljajic.
“Adem and I are like brothers but he's made his own choices. I wish him all the best.”
It was put to Jovetic that reigning champions Juventus will be the team to beat once again next season.
“They have a great team and they've signed three more good players but I'm not worried – I like playing teams like that.
“If Inter bring in reinforcements, I'm sure they'll do well but it's not my place to comment on it.”
The Montenegrin was also asked about the arrival of Suning, Roberto Mancini and his own targets for the season.
“We're happy that such an important group as Suning are now part of Inter and want to strengthen the team. It's our job to focus on the football side and aim to get back in the Champions League.
“The coach is in good form. He's relaxed and fired up, as always.
“I prefer not to set any personal targets. It's just words at the end of the day. What matters is what you do on the pitch.”
