REGGIO EMILIA – Danilo D'Ambrosio preferred to put a positive spin on things as he gave his assessment on this evening's game and the season in general.
"We stepped out for the second half to try and get back into the game, we had even had chances in the first half," the Italian defender said to Inter Channel. "We thought we had pulled it back to 3-2, but what happened demoralised us a bit and Sassuolo took control of the game and were able to take home the three points.
"We were already back in our half because the referee had awarded the goal. Perhaps he and the linesman weren't on the same wavelength and they changed the decision."
D'Ambrosio then moved on to the campaign as a whole: "We all definitely could have done more, myself included, and we could have bagged third spot. We're disappointed not to be in the Champions League but looking at the glass half-full we haven't featured in any European competition for a couple of years so we have to build on this platform.
"I'm pleased I was able to repay the coach's faith in me during the second half of the season."
