ZANETTI: "WE ALL HAVE TO CONTRIBUTE POSITIVELY"

The Nerazzurri vice president spoke to Sky Sport Italia after collecting the Emilio and Aldo De Martino international award for the love of sport

MILAN - Inter vice president Javier Zanetti picked up the Emilio and Aldo De Martino award earlier. The prize recognises men, women and families who epitomise a generation's commitment in life, sport and fundamental values.

Zanetti spoke briefly to Sky Sport Italia at the award ceremony: "Football has changed a lot but my relationship with Inter hasn't. It felt amazing to sign a contract for the rest of my career here. I'd like to thank president Erick Thohir and Massimo Moratti and I'll try to offer as much as I can going forward.

"Our season has been littered with drops in concentration and we deserved to lose a few games. The Empoli match is crucial: we have to win to qualify directly for the Europa League group stage.

"There are lots of young players in the team, Inter are a big club and everyone needs time. The younger players have to realise that there are several different stages in a season and indeed within a single match.

"We all have to try and find our own way of contributing positively to Inter. I'm rueful because I've seen how our season has gone and perhaps we could have competed for third or second place but our lack of consistency cost us.

"We'll see what we can do in the transfer market come the end of the season. Talks are ongoing with Suning and we can only be happy with the interest of such an important group."
