MASSIMO MORATTI AT UN IN GENEVA

The former Inter president was joined by his children Carlotta, Angelomario and Giovanni for Celebrating the Olympic Spirit at the United Nations

GENEVA – Massimo Moratti and his children were invited by Special Adviser on Sport for Peace and Development Wilfried Lemke to take part in ceremony at the United Nations Office in Geneva to celebrate the Olympic spirit.

The Olympic spirit is synonymous with sport and solidarity which has united the UNOSDP and Inter Campus in their joint work since 2012.

"This flame is a torch of solidarity with all nations in the world," said UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in support of the International Olympic Committee's decision to form a team of refugee athletes who will compete at Rio 2016 under the Olympic flag.

"For the first time in history, talented athletes who are forced to flee their homes will have the possibility of winning a gold medal. Their fellow refugees will see exceptional athletes giving hope to everybody and the world will see refugees as they deserve to be seen: strong, talented and inspirational people."

"Win or lose, they are champions of spirit," Ban Ki-moon added. "I welcome the refugee team and I will cheer for them with all my strength."
