RIJEKA – Inter Forever drew 1-1 with a Rijeka All Stars XI on Tuesday night in an entertaining charity match held to raise funds for the DIRA Association, an organisation working to help children with physical disabilities.
The first half started brightly, the home side cheered on by the majority of the 3000-strong crowd, and Francesco Toldo was called into action to stop a Rijeka attack on 13 minutes. Carbone was the man behind the first Nerazzurri chance, heading towards goal only for Radman to put behind for a corner.
Inter took the lead in the 27th minute after Alessandro Bianchi fired a right-footed shot across goal and into the back of the net, while Karagounis drew another save from Radman late on.
Both sides rang the changes after half-time – with Toldo even finding himself playing centre-forward for a spell – while Nicola Berti was happy to spend a very long time warming up, soaking up the applause as he did so.
The home crowd got their reward in the latter stages, Flego firing home from the spot to complete a thoroughly entertaining evening for all concerned.
