MANCINI: "WE NEED TO KEEP WINNING"

The boss previews Sunday's clash with Torino: "They've caused problems for lots of good teams and they have a very good coach"

APPIANO GENTILE – Roberto Mancini has called on Inter to rack up a string of victories in their last eight games of the season as they look to claim third place.

The Nerazzurri were in good form before the international break but remain five points behind Roma, who currently occupy the final Champions League berth.

"It was the last break of the season so it's straight through to the end now. We have to keep doing what we've been doing in recent weeks. There are lots of points still to be won and everyone has tough games to play. If we can put together a good number of wins we can make up the gap.

"We mustn't look at what Roma are doing. We have little choice but to try and win all our games so that we can make up the points we dropped in January and February. Roma have won lots of matches recently so based on the law of numbers they're perhaps due to lose a few."

In their last league match, Inter led Roma at the Olimpico before the Giallorossi pegged them back late on to claim a point.

"Perhaps we should have killed the game off – like other times – because you can always let a goal in at the end," Mancini reflected. "But obviously Roma were pressing us really hard looking for an equaliser at that stage. Up until then we'd defended very well."

The Nerazzurri went into that game missing a number of attacking players, and Mancini admitted that the absence was felt.

"We really missed Rodrigo at the Olimpico, like Mauro and the others. Palacio is very experienced and skilful. He knows how to drop back and harry opposition defenders and his movement is excellent. He could have a big role to play in the remaining games.

"As for Eder, he just needs a goal. If he hasn't scored yet it's largely down to good goalkeeping. He works really hard and always puts the team first. He's just been a bit unlucky."

With Erick Thohir set to return to the San Siro stands on Sunday night, one of the questions put to the manager was on the transfer market.

"I don't know if we'll have to sell any players but we're Inter and we must aim to improve the team year on year," he replied. "We'll see what we can do. At the moment we need to remain focused on nothing but the matches we have left to play and try to achieve the target we set ourselves at the start of the season."

As for Sunday's visitors, Mancini had the following to say: "Torino are never easy to play against. They've caused problems for lots of good teams and they have a very good coach."
