VECCHI: "THIS TEAM HAS DONE SUPERBLY SO FAR"

Primavera boss Stefano Vecchi after the win over Vicenza: "Three huge points to leave us top. Now we must focus on Viareggio and the Coppa Italia final"

MILAN - Stefano Vecchi says it's a case of "so far, so good" for his Primavera side after they beat Vicenza 2-1 today.

The win leaves Inter U19s top of the league as they turn their attentions to two other competitions: the Viareggio Cup and a two-legged Coppa Italia final.

“In terms of our league position these are three huge points, especially after our draw with Bologna at the weekend. We had to sweat a bit too much to earn them for my liking though. We're not able to up the tempo right from kick-off and we always afford our opponents a few too many chances because of lapses in concentration and a lack of determination.

"Sometimes we manage to turn things around after going behind, like today, but we need to play like that from the very start. We must try to create more openings in the first half, shift the ball around more quickly. If we raise the tempo and the intensity of our play we're capable of winning every match."

The victory stands the Nerazzurri in good stead going into a break from league action for the Viareggio Cup. “We wanted to do well in these last few games to ensure we were in a good position. We're top so we couldn't have done much better but we can't rest on our laurels because AC Milan and Atalanta are right behind us. Of course going into the Viareggio Cup and the Coppa Italia final as league leaders means we've done superbly so far.”

How's the team shaping up ahead of Viareggio? "They're in good shape and good form. If we play like we did in the second half we'll enjoy ourselves. The main thing is we show we're a team and play with intensity.”
