MANCINI: "A LONG WAY TO GO, IT'S IN OUR HANDS"

Nerazzurri coach: "We have to play well to make up the ground we lost in January and February"

MILAN - Roberto Mancini was rightly pleased after Inter's win over Palermo.

Did we see the real Inter tonight?
"Our approach was definitely good. Two goals in the first half hour allowed us to pick up where we left off on Wednesday night. But I would look at the result in Turin which - in my opinion - was harsh on us. Now we've played two good games and we have to keep going. The hope is that Wednesday's match - while we didn't make the final - has given us back what we need to reach the targets we've set ourselves.

"There are still lots of games to play, so it's in our hands. The points are up for grabs, we have time and if we play well and consolidate what we've produced in our last two games, we can move forward."

The coach then analysed his side's mistakes tonight: "It's only normal a bit of fatigue crept in after the Coppa Italia. Their goal came from one of our mistakes, for example. Plus, I think we deserved to score more goals."

It was special night for Adem Ljajic: "He knows I'm a massive of fan of his. Unfortunately he goes through some lean spells and switches off at times during training sessions. If you ask me, I believe he should consistently be a match winner and come up with something during games. He needs to keep doing better, including in training sessions where occasionally he's not up to the standard he should always be at."

Time is ticking and Inter need points in the race for Champions League football: "We have to play well to make up the ground we lost in January and February. I don't know if the Roma game will be crucial with ten matches still to play. If we manage to beat Bologna next week - which won't be easy - it will be an important match."

Certain players are progressing as the season wears on: "Perisic and Kondogbia are really improving. The two lads deserve it too. They're beginning to grasp how Italian football works, which is not like the German, French or English leagues. There's less space and you need to be more careful."

Brozovic only played a portion of the match despite his brace against Juventus: "I think he will be one of our two in central midfield but he covers more ground than anyone and he played 120 minutes on Wednesday."

Finally, a word on sporting director Ausilio's comments after the game in Turin: "Piero says the right things because he knows the players well. And they know he has the utmost respect for them. He wasn't harsh after the match, he simply said what was needed."
