ICARDI: "I'M THE CAPTAIN, I WANT TO LIFT TROPHIES HERE"

Nerazzurri striker this week's guest on InterNos: "I've had some offers but I want to win things with Inter"

APPIANO GENTILE - Mauro Icardi hopes to follow in the footsteps of former Nerazzurri skipper Javier Zanetti and win trophies with Inter.

Speaking on this week's episode of InterNos on Inter Channel, the Argentine striker - handed the captaincy at the start of the season - said: "I've been given this opportunity as captain and I'd love to become a club legend like Zanetti. Anyone would want to enjoy the same success he had."

Icardi answered a host of different questions on the show. How do you get yourself fired up for a game? "We listen to music together. Everyone chooses a song and so we get a mix of different genres."

On the season so far: "We had a superb first half of the season but sadly the second half hasn't gone as we wanted. We have to aim for third place now to get where the club wants to be and start playing European football again."

What do you want to do when you hang up your boots? "I don't know, I've only just started my professional career really. For now I'm just focused on being a footballer. I want to be a dad too but I haven't thought about what I'll do when I stop playing."

On rumours of a possible move away from Inter: "I've had a few offers but I want to stay here and lift trophies with this club. I'm the captain and I want to achieve great things with Inter. I've always shouldered my responsibility ever since I joined the club and I think the fans appreciate that."

As for earning an international call-up: "Argentina have the best strikers in the world and that obviously makes it harder for me to push my way in because there are some fantastic, experienced players ahead of me. I'm calm about it though and I'll be ready when the time comes. I know that one day I'll get the call from the Seleccion and I'll do my bit."

Next up for Inter is a double header against Juventus, starting with a league fixture on Sunday night. "We have to give it our best shot. We always set out to win and anything can happen once you get out there but you need the right mentality."

After that Inter will attempt to overturn a 3-0 first-leg deficit in the Coppa Italia semi-final and Icardi insists they could yet spring a surprise. "We'll give it a go on Wednesday in the second leg too. It's going to be very hard but we have to fight till the end. Just look at what happened between Liverpool and AC Milan in the Champions League final. Liverpool turned it around in just a few minutes and we have 90 to play."
