MANCINI: "FOCUSED ON VERONA, THEY'RE ON THE UP"

"We played really well against Chievo, we just need to learn to kill games off. We're in line to meet our targets." Read what the boss said ahead of Verona v Inter

APPIANO GENTILE – Roberto Mancini is wary of facing basement side Hellas Verona tomorrow after their upturn in form in recent weeks.

After a miserable start to the campaign the Gialloblu are now unbeaten in four and finally claimed their first win of the season against Atalanta in midweek.

The Nerazzurri meanwhile approach the game after getting back to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Verona's city rivals Chievo, a game they were unlucky not to win by a bigger margin.

"We played really well against Chievo, as we did against AC Milan up until our missed penalty," Mancini began. "We just have this small problem of not being able to kill games off because it means we suffer a bit at the end. Overall though I'm pleased with how our attack is doing.

"We have six strikers and we can only play three or four in one go but they're all working well and are available for selection.

"Mauro is still young so he has huge margin for growth. I'm happy with him."

Wednesday saw Inter record their tenth 1-0 win in Serie A this season and the manager sought to explain why it wasn't by a bigger scoreline.

"We had 24 chances so we need to be a bit more clinical. There are lots of reasons why we're not scoring more – that's just how football works sometimes. The Chievo keeper pulled off a couple of top-drawer saves and Mauro hit the underside of the bar too, otherwise we'd have scored more.

"There are only four or five teams in the world who play really fantastic football. It's harder to do that in Italy where the result means so much and where people's assessments are heavily influenced by it.

"We've thrown away a few points but we're in line to meet our targets. We have to think positive."

Inter will be without Miranda due to suspension tomorrow while three midfielders are one booking away from missing the match against Fiorentina. However, Mancini insists all the focus is on getting a result at the Stadio Bentegodi.

"We have to beat Verona and it won't be easy because they've picked up their form in the last few weeks. Our line-up won't be affected by possible suspensions.

"I can tell you that Medel won't play centre-back because we'll need more height at the back against Toni and Pazzini."

The boss also fielded questions on Geoffrey Kondogbia and Felipe Melo.

"It's hard for a young player to come in and adapt to Serie A immediately. I can say the same about Geoffrey as I did Icardi: he's very young and has huge potential for improvement.

"As for Melo, he did superbly after joining us then dropped off a bit after his red card because he missed playing."

Mancini ended his press conference by revealing the names of five players who will start the game against Verona: "Handanovic, Jesus, Murillo, Kondogbia and Icardi."
