MILAN – Roberto Mancini believes his side must accept their late defeat to Sassuolo as part and parcel of the game.
"That’s football," began Mancini. "We created lots of chances but Consigli was fantastic and we just couldn’t get the goal."
Mancini was under no illusions that his side deserved something from the match: "We were dominating the game and did everything to win. Sassuolo didn’t have any chances in the second half, apart from a few set plays. The penalty was an unfortunate episode that we paid the price for. We have managed zero points from the last two home games. We deserved much more than that but we have to accept the defeats, roll our sleeves up and go again."
The Inter coach was then asked about Adem Ljajic’s performance: "Ljajic can play anywhere, on the wing or as a second striker. He had five chances to score, two or three of which were clear-cut. He was unlucky."
Mancini was also asked about Inter’s supposed interest in Sampdoria striker Eder: "We’re talking to Samp about Dodo, I don’t think there’s anything else. We have good strikers so we’re fine as we are."
Finally, Mancini spoke of his disappointment at some of the decision-making on Sunday: "Berardi is a fantastic player and I’m a big fan, but he should have been sent off. Doveri never gets anything wrong when it’s against us. He was four metres away. Maybe D’Ambrosio should have been booked. He’s always spot on when it’s us."
