ZANETTI: "WE SHOWED CHARACTER AGAINST NAPOLI"

The Inter vice president commented on the team’s current form while attending the unveiling of Zanetti Story on DVD and Blu-Ray

MILAN – Inter vice president Javier Zanetti was at the San Siro Store this evening to help launch Zanetti Story on DVD and Blu-Ray. During the event, Zanetti answered questions about the Nerazzurri’s recent defeat to Napoli, their chances of winning the Scudetto this season and current Inter captain Mauro Icardi.

Before speaking about the Nerazzurri’s on-field performances, Zanetti began by saying a few words about the film itself: "I never thought they’d end up making a film about me. When I heard the directors’ proposal I thought it was a joke. But they were being serious – they went to Argentina, spoke to my father…

"The screening was a record-breaking evening, another demonstration of the bond I have with the fans. For the DVD, which goes on sale tomorrow, we’ve added in some moments from just after the Champions League final in Madrid that I wanted to share with the fans. I’m delighted and I want to say thank you to everyone who has made this possible," said Zanetti.

Conversation then turned to the current Inter crop: "Against Napoli the side showed great character, they produced an extraordinary second-half performance. It wasn’t easy, especially at a tough ground like the San Paolo and with one man less. The lads never stopped believing. We come out of that match with our heads held high – we showed what we’re made of and if we keep playing like that we’ll win plenty of matches. Now we need to get back to winning ways against Genoa on Saturday."

Asked whether the Nerazzurri could challenge for the Scudetto, Zanetti replied: "I hope we can stay up there right until the end. Monday showed we have confidence in our ability. Mancini is doing a great job, there’s a lovely vibe around the place and the fans are giving us loads of support."

Last but not least, Zanetti answered a few questions about current Inter captain Mauro Icardi: "It’s normal that strikers go through less positive spells. It happens. Mauro needs to be calm – the team and the whole club have every confidence in him. I’m sure he’ll get back to banging them in regularly and there’ll be no stopping him then. The armband isn’t a problem – Mauro has the personality to deal with it. But he’s still young and needs to find his way. Being the captain of Inter is something to be very proud of."
