SESTO SAN GIOVANNI – Stefano Vecchi hopes to see further improvement from his young charges when the return to league action on Saturday after an impressive cup win over Cesena this afternoon.
The Nerazzurri U19s triumphed 3-0 at the Stadio Breda thanks to goals by Miguel Marì Sanchez, Pau De la Fuente and Jose Correia.
After watching his team record a fifth straight victory, the coach said: "We're picking up results all right. I'd like to see a bit more quality to our build-up play but we're getting the job done and producing some fairly mature performances.
"There was just one situation where we might have conceded today and that's a good sign against a team like Cesena. We're not giving much away at the back and we're improving our attacking play but we must learn to kill off games because at 1-0 there were a number of opportunities we should have exploited better."
Inter's next Coppa Italia fixture – in January 2016 – will see them take on Alberto De Rossi's Roma, a rematch of last season's quarter-final.
"It's a chance for us to set the record straight after they knocked us out last year," Vecchi admitted. "We're glad we've managed to go through and we'll try to learn from our mistakes to make sure we don't repeat them.
"For now we have the league to focus on and there are five matches to play before our cup quarter-final. We need to get as many points on the board as possible to strenghten our position."
The first of those five league outings sees Inter travel to Vicenza. "I'll certainly ring a few changes on Saturday," Vecchi ended. "Today was a tiring match and we were missing a few players too. The good thing is that this year we have a big squad with lots of kids all on the same level. They'll all get their chance to show what they can do."
