MANCINI: "DRAW A FAIR RESULT"

The Nerazzurri boss spoke to the press after his side’s 0-0 draw in the Derby d’Italia: "It was a match between two solid teams and the defences came out on top"

MILAN – Roberto Mancini believes that both sides were deserving of a point this evening as Inter and Juventus played out an exciting 0-0 draw at San Siro. Speaking after the match, Mancini declared: "It was a tough match for both sides. It’s the sort of result that can happen when two solid teams meet. We played to win, but in the end both defences came out on top."

Mancini went on to expand on his side’s performance in greater detail: "I’m satisfied because the guys showed character. It wasn’t easy, especially because we had five or six players back late from international duty. Juventus didn’t have many chances and neither did we, so 0-0 is a fair result. Perhaps we struggled a bit more in the second half and we should have stayed higher up the pitch, but these are difficult matches and we know we still need to improve."

Asked about Stevan Jovetic’s performance, Mancini replied: "I think Jovetic had his best game since he’s been at Inter, despite only training for three days. He tired a bit after the break, but that’s to be expected. He can only improve from here on in. When Mauro Icardi starts scoring it will be a great boost for us. He’s scored two so far but I’m convinced he’ll have 18-20 goals by the end of the season, as always. Kondogbia is a fantastic player and we really believe in him, there are many matches left to play."

Last but not least, Mancini took stock of the Serie A title race after eight rounds of matches: "Fiorentina are the favourites for the Scudetto right now because they’re out in front of everybody. They played very well against Napoli today, despite losing. It’s a tough, even league this year and you need to fight in every game to win."
