MILAN – Six goals in five games against Juventus. Even before he moved to Inter, Mauro Icardi had no doubts about his favourite opponents. Thinking back to his visit to the Bianconeri with Sampdoria on 6 January 2013, Icardi states: "My brace at Juventus Stadium is something I’ll never forget. We were a man and a goal down, but we managed to turn it around and get all three points. In the return fixture, on the last day of the season, we went 1-0 down but I scored again and we won 3-1."
Icardi may have changed jerseys since then, but his knack for putting Juventus to the sword has very much stayed put, with it taking the Argentine just five minutes to leave his mark on his first Derby d’Italia: "The first time I played against Juventus at San Siro for Inter was an incredible feeling. I was carrying an injury so wasn’t at 100%, but I came on in the second half and found the net right away in front of our fans. It was amazing. The roar of San Siro sent shivers up my spine."
You’ll find the rest of our exclusive interview with the Inter captain in the Matchday Programme at San Siro on Sunday 18 October, when Icardi resumes his personal battle with Juventus. See you there, and forza Inter!
