SHANGHAI – Inter Forever were beaten by Real Madrid Leyendas in the final of the Winning League International Legends Championship today, the defeat taking nothing away from what has been a highly positive experience for the Nerazzurri legends in Shanghai.
Inter had the upper hand in the first half but it was Luis Figo – playing for Los Blancos – who opened the scoring in slightly fortuitous circumstances following a cross by Congo.
After the restart the Colombian centre forward helped himself to a four-minute brace to effectively kill the game off as a contest.
With 15 minutes remaining, Seedorf was brought down by Fresi just inside the box and Amavisca stepped up to convert from the spot.
The best move of the game came four minutes from time. Karagounis played it to Chivu, who backheeled to Cesar and his cross to the far past was turned in by Ballotta for a Nerazzurri consolation goal.
Congo then completed his hat trick in added time.
After the final whistle Javier Zanetti led the side over to thank the passionate Chinese fans. Thank you, Shanghai!
