SHANGHAI – It was a big day for Inter Forever, who kick off the Winning League International Legends Championship against FPA Barcelona tomorrow. After a press conference this morning, the Nerazzurri legends team took to the field for training at Hongkou Stadium this afternoon, after Barcelona and before Real Madrid.
At this morning's media conference, Luis Figo spoke enthusiastically about the opportunity this tournament offers Chinese fans to see a host of world football stars as three of Europe's biggest clubs do battle.
There certainly is a lot of excitement surrounding these teams with a huge number of journalists and fans following Inter Forever around since they landed yesterday.
This afternoon Figo was one of the first to give out autographs and pose for photos with fans who came to watch the Nerazzurri in training despite the rain.
It was a training session just like the old times, with some rondo to start with followed by shooting practice to warm the gloves of Toldo and Ballotta and an inter-squad match to finish.
Cristian Chivu and Youri Djorkaeff joined up with the group this morning and the former France international, making his second appearance with Inter Forever following last year's trip to China, said: "We're Inter ambassadors and it's nice to be able to represent the club like this. The fans are so passionate here and they've set up a great tournament."
The Romanian defender, one of Inter Forever's most recent signings, added: "Inter are really popular in the East and especially in China. It's great to get back on the pitch on occasions like this because we're friends off the field as well, even though we're from different generations and played for Inter at different times."
Inter Forever play their Winning League International Legends Championship semi-final against Barcelona tomorrow morning at 11:00 CEST.
