MANCINI: "RESULTS GIVE US CONFIDENCE"

"Getting the results helps. We need to keep working hard because there’s a long season ahead," said the Nerazzurri boss at Expo 2015

MILAN – Inter coach Roberto Mancini spent the afternoon at Expo 2015 today after last night’s derby success, with the boss happy to answer questions about his side’s 1-0 defeat of rivals AC Milan.

"It’s nice to be at the top of the table but it doesn’t mean anything yet. We’re happy to have won the derby, though we know that there is a long season ahead. I’m pleased that Moratti and Thohir are happy and I hope the president enjoyed it!" began Mancini.

"We’ve had lots of changes and it’ll take some time to bring the group together. Some players have only been here for four days, so it’s only to be expected that they need to settle in. Obviously it helps to get the results and having nine points in the bank allows us to relax and gives us confidence. That said, we need to keep working hard because we can’t let our league standing change our approach. We know we need to maintain our focus," the Nerazzurri boss continued.

Mancini was then asked about Ranocchia’s absence last night: "Andrea is a great player and was unfairly made a scapegoat last year. I’m sure he’ll become a very important player for Inter again."

Asked about Juventus’ slow start to the season, Mancini replied: "Football is a strange old game. They’ve had two early defeats but I’m sure they’ll be fighting for the Scudetto until the very end."

Finally, Mancini said a few words on new signing Felipe Melo: "He put in a top performance, but he’s not at 100% yet because he missed pre-season. I’m delighted with his showing last night, as I was with Guarin and the whole team performance."
