MODENA – Inter coach Roberto Mancini spoke to the press after his side made it two wins from two at the start of the 2015/16 Serie A season thanks to a 1-2 defeat of Carpi this evening.
"There are 36 matches yet to play so I’m just happy to have won again. We had to dig in but we were expecting that. The team still needs to improve – we should have had the result sewn up but instead conceded an absurd goal. Carpi put in an excellent performance but we deserved the three points," began Mancini.
Asked about the impact new signing Stevan Jovetic has had, Mancini replied: "We signed Jovetic to influence our play, provide assists and score goals. He has incredible technical ability and he’s not at 100% yet."
There was special praise for the Nerazzurri’s centre-back pairing: "Murillo and Miranda were outstanding. Carpi had some chances at 0-1 but they have some good players up front so that’s to be expected. Their goal came out of the blue though, and we should have put the game to bed much earlier."
Mancini was then asked about his midfield: "We tried with Kondogbia in front of the defence during the training camp and we know it’s an option. He has great potential for improvement. We’re not at 100% in midfield just now. I love players like Medel because of the sheer amount of effort they put in on the field. If I had 11 players with Medel’s attitude we’d win every game. I think Icardi will recover in time for the derby."
With the transfer window still open, the line of questioning inevitably turned to potential arrivals: "We are still short in some areas of the squad. We came here tonight with just two strikers and an 18-year-old kid. Eder is a Sampdoria player."
Finally, Mancini spoke about Juventus’ supposed interest in Hernanes: "That’s news to me. He’s a very important player for us. He always makes a difference and hasn’t played much so far solely due to fitness issues."
