REGGIO EMILIA – Sassuolo ran out 1-0 winners over Inter this evening in the second match of the Trofeo TIM.
The Nerazzurri changed virtually their whole line-up after the earlier defeat to AC Milan, but it was one of those involved against the Rossoneri, Marcelo Brozovic, who had the first chance of the match – the Croat unleashed a dangerous shot towards the Sassuolo goal on four minutes, but it whistled just over the bar.
Inter threatened again on ten minutes, with Manaj cutting inside expertly to work a yard of space, but his right-footed effort was wayward.
Having weathered the early storm, Sassuolo whirred into life through Politano, whose curling shot had to be blocked by D’Ambrosio. The sight of goal seemed to hearten the Neroverdi, who found the breakthrough on 24 minutes: Paolo Cannavaro sent Defrel in behind the Nerazzurri lines, with the Frenchman making no mistake in slotting past Carrizo for 1-0.
Chances were few and far between from then on, with Sassuolo managing the game well. Palacio had a decent chance to equalise two minutes from the end, but the Argentine’s shot sailed well over the bar. The final whistle blew soon afterwards, ending the Nerazzurri’s shot at lifting the Trofeo TIM.
