MURILLO: "FOCUSED ON WINNING"

"There’s an infectious energy around the place, I’m working to improve every day," the Colombian defender told Inter Channel

BRUNICO Jeison Murillo is one of several new faces in the Inter dressing room this season. And after finding his feet in the Nerazzurri’s pre-season friendly matches, the Colombian defender sat down with Inter Channel today to reflect on a whirlwind start to his Inter career.

"I’m happy to be here, as I said when I first arrived in Milan. I want to make the most of the opportunity God and Inter have given me," declared Murillo.

"I think Inter’s playing style is well-suited to my attributes. I’m a quick player with good timing and a strong character. Away from the pitch, I’m a very laid-back, happy guy but as soon as I cross that white line it’s a different story. Being here is a chance to show my worth and help the team," continued the Colombian.

Murillo also spoke about his recent experience at the Copa America: "It was a great opportunity for me to showcase what I can do at an international competition. Being named the best young player at the tournament made all my efforts worthwhile. I’d like to thank God and all those who have believed in me along the way."

The young Nerazzurri defender then addressed the inevitable comparisons with Ivan Cordoba: "I think he’s a great man and a great player, not just for my country but for Inter too. I get compared to him because of my characteristics as a footballer, my way of playing and obviously my position on the pitch. Having said that, I hope to carve out my own path at this club. I’ll give my all for the good of the team."

Last but not least, Murillo said a few words about Roberto Mancini and the Nerazzurri’s targets for the 2015/16 season: "The coach prepares us really well from a physical standpoint and also works very hard on tactics. I knew it was going to be like that in Italy and he’s really helping me to grow as a player. If he gives me the chance to play I’ll do everything I can to repay his faith.

"Inter is a great club and here you need to be focused on winning at all times. The club is always aiming for the top positions and there is an infectious energy around the place. I’m not one to rest on my laurels – I’m always demanding more from myself. I work to become the best defender around one day," concluded Murillo.
