MUNICH – The legendary faces of Inter Forever donned the Nerazzurri jersey once again this evening as they took to the Allianz Arena turf to take on Bayern Munich All Stars in their first appearance since last summer’s tour to China.
After Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was presented with a special No. 11 Nerazzurri shirt, the match got underway. And it was a trip down memory lane for the many Inter fans present, as Toldo, Zanetti, Suazo and the rest showed that retirement has done little to dilute their talents.
Bayern had the first chance of the match in the fourth minute, drawing a fine near-post save out of Toldo to keep the scores level. Inter responded through Carbone and Suazo, with the latter latching on to a low cross to fire just past the post.
Makaay had a goal chalked off for offside in the 23rd minute, before Suazo once again threatened, this time skipping past Jorginho and forcing Butt into action with a fierce shot. The first half closed with a lovely lob from Zanetti, which eluded the entire German defence but just missed the target.
Inter were ahead just after the break, as Suazo curled home a tasty right-footed curler from the edge of the area. The Nerazzurri were in control now, and continued to threaten as the clock ticked down. Bianchi swung a peach of a cross onto Choutos’ head, but the Inter man couldn’t quite apply the finish.
It ended 0-1 in favour of the Nerazzurri, keeping Inter Forever’s unbeaten status alive and conjuring up images of heady past triumphs over the Bavarians…
