Fourth-best Genoa attack in Serie A history
The 58 goals scored by Genoa this season mean they have the fourth-best attack in their Serie A history, equalling the 1930/31 and 1932/33 seasons. The Rossoblu’s attacking podium is currently made up of 1942/43 (59 goals), 1929/30 (63 goals) and 1947/48 (68 goals).
Six wins from eight for Ligurians
Since their 1-1 draw with Udinese at the Marassi on Easter Saturday, Genoa have put together a stunning run of six wins from eight games, yielding an impressive 18 points from a possible 24. The two losses were the 2-1 defeat at Palermo and the 2-0 loss to Roma.
Izzo joins 100 club
Genoa defender Armando Izzo will make his 100th career appearance if he plays at the Ferraris tonight. Izzo has so far made 18 appearances in Serie A, 30 in Serie B, 41 in the Lega Pro and ten in the Coppa Italia, turning out for Triestina, Avellino and Genoa. The defender made his professional debut in a Coppa Italia match on 7 August 2011, as Triestina beat Vogherese by two goals to nil.
Icardi most prolific marksman since 2011/12
Mauro Icardi currently stands on 19 Serie A goals this season, placing him second behind Carlos Tevez and on equal footing with the evergreen Luca Toni. It means that Maurito is already the Nerazzurri’s most prolific goalscorer since compatriot Diego Milito bagged 24 goals in the 2011/12 season.
Odds on a red card?
Along with Sassuolo, Inter have seen their opponents go down to ten men the most out of any side this Serie A season. It’s happened a whopping ten times in 36 matches.
Goals on the road
Inter have rediscovered their collective scoring boots, especially away from home, where they’ve only failed to score once in their last nine matches. Where? You’ve guessed it… it was the 1-0 defeat by Sampdoria on 22 March at tonight’s venue, the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. The Nerazzurri have scored 19 goals in the other eight matches. Moreover, Inter have won all three away games since the defeat to the Blucerchiati (0-3 against Hellas Verona, 1-2 against Udinese and 1-2 against Lazio). The Nerazzurri haven’t won four away matches on the bounce since 2012, when they had an incredible 10-match winning streak on the road between August and November.
Mancini invictus
Gian Piero Gasperini has never beaten Roberto Mancini as a coach. There have been three meetings between the two Italian managers so far, with Mancini winning twice in addition to one draw. It’s worth pointing out that the Nerazzurri scored in each of those encounters, bagging eight goals to the Rossoblu’s three.
Inter behind Gasperini’s biggest loss
Gian Piero Gasperini has taken charge against Inter on 11 occasions, winning just one of those matches (the 1-0 home defeat of the Nerazzurri on 19 January 2014). There have also been three draws and seven Inter wins. Incidentally, Gasperini suffered the biggest defeat of his managerial career at the hands of the Nerazzurri as Inter beat Genoa 0-5 at the Marassi on 17 October 2009. Gasperini, of course, had a brief spell in charge of Inter between July and September 2011 – he failed to win a single game as Nerazzurri boss, drawing one and losing four of the five competitive matches he oversaw.
