APPIANO GENTILE – Nerazzurri midfielder Gary Medel held a press conference at the Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti this lunchtime ahead of Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina: "I hope there’s a great atmosphere and that it’s a good match. We want to get the three points to give joy to our fans and to ourselves."
The Pitbull was under no illusions as to how to approach these matches: "With heart and balls," he remarked in Spanish. "We need to be aggressive. I’ve played in one of the most intense derbies in the world with Boca Juniors, so I know what these matches mean. AC Milan are a strong team but have had a mixed season, like us. We respect them but we fear nobody."
Medel then spoke about the Nerazzurri’s recent results: "We must accept the criticism because it’s certainly not been one of Inter’s best years. We know we can give more, Mancini has made sure we understand that. We try to improve day in, day out and the situation with the coach is excellent. There’s a long way to go and we’ll do everything we can to qualify for Europe. Wearing the Inter shirt is not easy, because this is one of the biggest clubs in the world."
Inter president Erick Thohir will be at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Sunday to cheer the side on. "The president’s support is always there," said Medel. "He’s always in contact with every one of us and knowing that he’s going to be at the stadium to cheer us on gives us great strength."
