MILAN – Speaking on Tiki Taka, Javier Zanetti looked back on his wonderful career with the Nerazzurri and much more besides. After a video was shown depicting some of his highlights in Milan, Zanetti simply declared: "I owe Inter so much, because the club gave me everything."
Zanetti went on to recall his early days at Inter: "When I arrived in Milan I was practically unknown, but over the years I won everything and even became captain of the club. Wearing the Nerazzurri shirt was an honour. I went into each battle with the aim of taking Inter to the top and in the end we managed it. The fans gave me some incredible moments."
Conversation then turned to the Zanetti & Friends, Match for Expo charity event, set to be held at San Siro on Monday 4 May: "It’ll be a match with lots of my friends, a celebration for Milan and for the Expo. There’ll be lots of players who have gone down in the history of Inter and AC Milan, such as Matthäus, Brehme, the Baresi brothers, Roberto Baggio, Zamorano, Maldini and Costacurta. I hope there’ll be lots of fans too, to help us to raise funds for associations involved in charity work in the city of Milan."
The Nerazzurri vice president also touched on the current situation at the club: "We all want to contribute so that the team can return to the top. President Thohir is very involved and is trying to build a good side. This is his first full year in charge, so we need patience. He’s giving everything to take Inter back to the top."
With the Inter v AC Milan derby just around the corner, Zanetti spoke of the importance of the match: "It really is a special derby. It’s a match that can give us an important boost for the season finale so that we can build something important for the future. We want to be competitive again from next year."
