MILAN – Inter coach Roberto Mancini spoke to the media shortly after the full-time whistle had blown on his side’s 1-1 draw with Cesena at San Siro tonight: "It wasn’t a great game. The first half was very low-key. Cesena realised they could cause us some problems and did just that. We weren’t very decisive or aggressive in our play. We improved after the break though, equalising straight away and creating a lot of chances.
"I can’t be happy. If we’d won tonight we would’ve been within seven points of Napoli with 11 games still to play. I’m an optimist by nature and hoped we could do more. Anything could’ve happened if we’d got to 39 points, but now it’s a bit trickier. Well done to Di Carlo because Cesena played excellently and deserved what they got.
"We make too many mistakes – the match against Wolfsburg proved that. Everyone wants to improve when we don’t play well. The team is improving little by little, with positive performances alternating with more negative ones. The lads are giving everything on the pitch, so I’m sorry for them and I’m sorry for the fans too, who are suffering a lot right now. I’m suffering with them," Mancini told Sky Sport Italia.
Mancini then spoke to Rai about Thursday’s Europa League clash against Wolfsburg: "Even though the fans may be angry or disappointed because we’re not doing well, I hope they come to the stadium on Thursday to support us. We need them. Cup matches are different because anything can happen.
"We need one of those nights where we simply make something happen. Wolfsburg are a good team and there’s a reason why they’re second in the Bundesliga, but if we put in a great performance we can get through to the next round. We’re disappointed because there’s no way we could have been happy after this match, but tomorrow is another day and we’ll start to prepare for Thursday," declared Mancini.
